ABOUT DOUGLASVILLE SCHOOL OF DANCE
Little did I know that in 1975 when Libba Tishaw started DOUGLASVILLE SCHOOL OF DANCE that this was the beginning of my childhood dream coming true! At the age of 5, I began studying dance in Atlanta with J. Frank Leitzsey. There were no dance schools in Douglasville back in 1966. I began dancing at DOUGLASVILLE SCHOOL OF DANCE in 1977 where it was originally located in the Market Square Shopping Center on Highway 5. In the early 1980's I began assisting and teaching in some of the dance classes. My dream was to one day be the owner of a dance school. In 1983, Ms. Libba approached me about buying the dance studio. God was truly giving me the desires of my heart. In June, 1984, my husband and I purchased DOUGLASVILLE SCHOOL OF DANCE. We remained at the Market Square location through May, 1989. God continued to bless our school when we were able to open in our brand new building at West Stewart Mill Road in the fall of 1989. In December, we performed at the Egleston's Festival of Trees in Atlanta which became an annual event for us. In the summer of 1996, we had the awesome privilege of having a group of our dancers perform in the Opening Ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In 2007, we were invited to perform in the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Christmas Parade. This is a televised event, and our dancers look forward to this opportunity each December. Many of our students have assisted in our classes, and after graduating joined our teaching staff. Presently our teachers are Ms. Sheryl Clay, Ms. Kristen Holloway, Ms. Nicole Crook, Ms. Kristen Tate, Ms. Serena Arnold, Ms. Kayla Beth Holcomb, Ms. Lyndsey Buterbaugh and Ms. Lakin Tucker. I, along with the other teachers, have thoroughly appreciated the opportunity of teaching so many little girls over the years. God has truly poured out His blessings on our school, and I give Him the glory for its success.
